What is a biological hazard?

A biological hazard (biohazard) is a threat to any living being because of other living organisms.  The threats can be minor and deadly too. It can also disrupt lives to an extent that one may cause property damage or social, economic and environmental damage!

The sources for biohazard can be abundant. For that matter, various theories have been suggested to identify the most pressing sources and their solutions. They include: bacteria, viruses, plants, birds, animals and even other humans! Theories suggest that the beauty industry is a major contributor to the biohazard. It is exposed by instruments of body piercing, waxing, tattooing, electrolysis, nail services and many other.

There are 4 levels for biohazard. Level 1 is the least dangerous and can cause mild sickness only. Easily decontaminated by a regular use of gloves and masks and marking their equipment separately. Level 2 people need more care. They are often diagnosed with hepatitis, salmonella and measles. Level 3 is dangerous and need to keep in a separate environment. However, level 4 is deadly and requires people working around them to have their own supply of oxygen!

The control measures for the spread of biohazards include the substitution of Used and contaminated material and equipment. Redesign area so that all equipment is stacked separately. Also, install furnishings that are made of non-absorbent material.  Isolate, label and waste the contaminated items or anything that has had blood contact! Be very specific with your staff about the cleanliness and disinfection if the equipments are to be used again.
